Took the poll on prosecuting a former President. Where's the "all of the above" choice?

I am a bit confused between special counsel and independent counsel. I chose independent counsel because I am assuming that independence is not totally present in the special counsel role. In our hostile-to-the-truth political climate, any investigation would have to be independent if it was to be at least potentially believable by the Republicans...

I really don’t know. But my hunch is DOJ which should be independent when run correctly and is capable of creating a Special Council which has shown to be effective recently. The downside is the whole process can take too long. My guess is that it took too long against J6 crimes because Garland was afraid of appearing political. But, with effective leadership it could have accelerated investigations. Another downside is it is part of the executive branch and a corrupt president could fire whoever goes after him and put in a loyalist - as we have witnessed. (And now I may be talking myself out of my answer. May I vote again?🤔)

The last choice would be Congress as it would become political then. They couldn’t successfully dismiss Trump from office after 2 impeachments due to politics.

Let 's hope the current choice does the job because Trump needs to be gone.He has done irretrievable damage domestically and internationally.

Would be helpful to have quick summation of what each of these is before we pick. My choice is somewhere between special council act or sc regulations. Please remind me before I tick a box!

Since you wrote the regs and have spoken about the pros and cons of these choices on a variety of television appearances, I'm hoping my choice is an educated one. :)

My choice is whatever is most competent and least political!!

Can we do it the Tfg way. Go with gut! Find guilty and toss the key.

Not that it will measurably sway Neal’s survey, but I carelessly selected the Independent Counsel rather than my actual preference, the Special Counsel option. Sorry for the error.

After reading that provision for Independent Counsel expired years ago, I would amend my choice to Special Counsel regulations. My concern is to remove the process as far as possible from political dynamics.

Special counsel, or should i say JackSmith , seems to be working well.

This congressional investigation was excellent andrevealed a lot to the public. But it can’t prosecute (impeachment notwithstanding where the “jury” not unbiased and has different objectives

Don’t understand Independent counsel or “special attorney” used in the current controversy over Weiss.

The important thiings are access to resources and insulation from political officials.

Currently the former president can perform delay tactics. Even though he has been& is being investigated he can delay the prosecution perhaps after the 11/5/2024 election. Yes, justice is slow. How slow can the system go so he once again escapes?
